Re(search) is the second most popular activity to do online.71% of people search for information online.
Of that 40% use searching as a precursor to shopping online.
Search engine math
1. two or more words e.g. “golf+carts”
2. exclude words i.e. “Hilary Clinton – Bill Clinton”
3. Exact match – # “pound sign” i.e. cat# will find the word cat and only
the word “cat”
4. Wildcards – cat* would yield the results “ cathedral, Catherine the
great, cats, catastrophe”
5. Boolean “or”- rome or Milan
6. most importantly, be specific as possible
What to watch out for when searching online:
Organic search/Natural – The actual “unbiased” results that come from a search request.
Inorganic search/unnatural SEM- The results that advertisers pay to be listed on. They are typically differentiated from that of the natural search by either being shaded or bold or off to the side. Most ‘sponsored search’ results are indicated as such.
