Holiday Online Wishlist

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Are you stumped about what to get your best bud, significant other and/or family member for the holidays? Try searching online to see if they have an online wish list. Gone are the days of gift registries only being for wedding and babies. Anyone can create an online wish list for any reason, anytime. Plus it very easy to direct friends and relatives to. Most retailers are accommodating surfers and customers online with the wish list. All one has to do is just sign up and in a matter of minutes one can start building their list. Some features include being able to write a line or two about the item, and you can also feel free to modify and delete items on this list at anytime. If you favorite retailer does not have an online wish list or favorities list on their site, recommend one! Visiting online wish lists helps in boosting online traffic to a website. So have a happy holiday season and happy searching!

Has one local New York City college gotten too personal in marketing to prospective students?

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

I have just returned from checking my snail mail, which contained a postcard from a Bronx college for an MBA program. Since, I already have an MBA, my normal MO would be to prepare it for the shredder, but this one was personalized. It wasn’t that it had my name on it, but what stuck me was that for more information, they encouraged you to visit “Your Personal Page” at http://www.localcollege.edu/firstname.lastname. In my experienence in working with colleges, getting personal too soon can drive prospective students away, especially if the person had not initiated prior contact with the institution. I am keeping my eye on this to see what  develops in terms of marketing practices.

You never know when or where inspiration strikes

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Working in the commuter train. This is what freelancing has come to, writing down article ideas and client strategy on the train. Sometimes, the best ideas come while I’m commuting. Since I have been working freelance, I feel like if I’m losing time whenever I commute. I know it sounds selflish, but I have been reminded why I like my current state, communting takes as much as 2 hours a day. Which is why I always carry a pen and paper on me; after all you never know when inspiration may strike.

A freelancer’s best friend

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

A kitchen timer is a freelancer’s best friend because I can keep track of the time spent on client projects versus the time spent procrastinating. I have to thank my “sister-in-crime” for the tip.
