Making code from scratch

Friday, June 29th, 2007

RSS or by email. Thanks for visiting!

For those of you are not familiar, Feedburner is a service that lets you monitor the amount of people who subscribe to receive your blog post. Subscribers can also choose to receive posts by email.

I been having a difficult time with the Feedburner FeedFlare code on Blogger. I have a couple of clients who were having challenges with JavasScript code for the FeedFlare ( a service that lets visitors bookmark blog posts to the social networking site of their choice (Del.icio.us, Digg, StumbleUpon, etc…). The code provided by Feedburner did not publish at all, no matter how much I published. So, after much thought and pacing, I decided I had to create the code from scratch. I described it to one of my clients as “making a cake from scratch vs. using the instant mix.” I “kneaded” the code exactly how I wanted it to look, published and the rest is history. The lesson… don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and shape the dough in the way you want it.

Give you blog legs with social bookmarking

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

In the last installment, we talked about how businesses should create weblogs (Blogs) to organize press releases, newsletters, articles and publicity.

Today, we are going to discuss how your blog can travel by social bookmarking and networking.

The easiest way to market your blog is to make sure that the blog has a clear visible way for people to subscribe. Having the orange RSS, XML or the Subscribe “subscribe” symbol button above the fold of the blog will help.

Another way to give your blog legs is to see if your blog application has an “E-mail this post” option. Blogger has a module where one can have an e-mail envelope inserted underneath a post. Someone who knows HTML will be able to easily implement it.

Social bookmarking means getting website visitors to bookmark blog posts. Popular sites to bookmark include del.icio.us, Digg, StumbleUpon and Techonrati to name a few. People create accounts on these sites, visit websites they like and then bookmark pages into their accounts for later reference.

Feed aggregators are also a way how people receive information from their favorite blogs. Google lets visitors share and star blog posts. Yahoo also has feed readers where visitors can read posts through their email accounts or headlines via my.yahoo.com pages.

Do you want to build a community for your blog? MyBlogLog enables anyone who authors a blog to build not only exposure, but also a community.

There are many ways in which one can market their blog. All one needs to do is start the conversation and share their thoughts.
