As you may know, I have been traveling on the road, meeting and connecting with professionals that are in the same boat. In addition to attending the eduWeb 2008 Conference in Atlantic City, NJ last month, thanks to Freelancers Union , I won a f*ree registration to the Creative Freelancers Conference in Chicago, IL.
If you are going to the conference(or not), join us in the pre-conference festivities on Facebook or Ning created by yours truly.
Once again, follow me during the conference at twitter.com/nextsteph or at del.icio.us/nextsteph.

to repeat itself. I should of followed through with my own advice back in November when I first signed up for a 2GB Totally Free Online Backup! Compliments of Mozy account.
The computer desktop drama of last week has definitely woke me up to the importance of risk management which in my case includes regular online backups. More than likely I will have both a personal and business account.
So if you have a computer and you put everything on it and/or you carry around USB drives and you carry everything on there, do yourself a favor and save yourself some anxiety and sleepless nights. Try Mozy and if you need more space, you can always upgrade to Peace of Mind – Only $4.95/Month! Get Mozy Unlimited Online Backup. or to MozyPro for businesses.

People have me pegged as a Blackberry
user, but as we know, I’ve been a Palm since circa “2000” ish.
People have told me that they consider the Blackberry a better tool to keep up with social networking and email. The recommendations are all good and well, but one needs to consider the pro/cons, of switching devices, the time that it takes to data from old to new devices (some cell phone providers have that service), not to mention re-training yourself to use the new device.

Well, not for me. I feel like if I have been in marathon mode for the past month and a half solid.
Seth Godin said on his blog that one should work through this time as if “your hair is on fire“.
All I have to say is that there is nothing like losing your hard drive and not having a desktop for a few days to put priorities and perspective into place (try saying that three times fast.)

After a week of desktop drama, I also had some bookmark drama. I was at my workstation at a client’s site and firefox was acting funny (this firefox is on 2. something). So I synced my bookmarks like normal and poof! no more bookmarks.
Of course it didn’t hit me until I went home and had dinner. I fired up my laptop and poof! no more bookmarks.
So I went to my now operating desktop computer and manually saved the bookmarks by exporting them to an HTML file. Then I fished around Foxmarks for some help and Volia! Under the “Tools” menu, there is an option to “Explore and Restore Old Bookmarks” Yay!
So I restored the bookmarks from two days ago on both machines and I can rest a little easier. Now if it was only that easy to recover my external hard drive.

Ok, I was resisting writing about the Olympics for the past week due to all the politics and the drama surrounding the festivities this time around. Unless you have been hiding under a rock its hard not to know and be inspired by Michael Phelps.
I won’t go into his story here, there are many places online and in print that have already done that. Phelps’ golden journey has caused many Americans to believe that anything truly is possible. He’s also gotten Americans to actually watch and/or login to see the Olympics.
Of course, Grandma has to put her $0.05 in (the cost of a subway fare back in the day) in. She always tells me to don’t be discouraged and don’t pay attention to the naysayers. According to other news reports, that’s exactly what he did.

Are bookstores going extinct? It sure seems so lately. I took Grandma to the mall the other day for a long overdue excursion. One of the items on my list was to buy a particular book. Sure I could have of ordered it online, but since I was going to the mall anyway, I figured that I would wait.
The first thing I did when we went in the mall was grabbed a directory, since it had been ages since we went to this particular mall. I looked over the directory several times, no bookstore.
Could it be that the bookstores now are standing on their own, with megastores, or are more people ordering online or a combination of the two?

I went to Mashable’s SummerMash NYC, the final stop in the summer tour yesterday. Read my view of the coverage of the event on Twitter.

I created yet another blog, called Never Left College. This is fairly typical of what happens to me after a conference.
After all, Mama’s Keeper happened as a result of Blogher 07.
This blog will focus on all things that related to the education side of my career. You may recognize a few posts, but from here on in, this is the “education drawer”.
