It’s great that technology has advanced so much in so little time. It was just a few years ago that we marveled at PDAs and their ability to keep our schedules while offering other productivity applications or seeing mobile phones and PDAs converge to give us all-in-one devices. Now, we can use fully capable multi-media devices to organize, entertain, connect and put the full power of the internet in our pockets. It’s all truly amazing.

I think many of us are trying to do too much by being everywhere all the time. Like you, I did a similar inventory of my online involvement and decided to opt out of several email lists, Ning groups, deleted an inactive MySpace account and linked many of my update sites together through an aggregator in an effort to cut myself off from social distractions that had little to no payback.

It’s important to focus on being where your core community congregates and providing as much expertise and assistance as you can in order to effectively build your brand and enhance your credibility. Being Jack of all trades and master of none backfires in the long run; you can’t build reliable relationships when it’s impossible to keep up.

Steph, This is so true! As you know I help others too and I started looking at my sites and have begun the clean up, organization and new look and feel. Transformation takes awhile yet worth it. I would encourage all your readers to step back and look at and rethink their site(s) look and feel, navigation and organization and see where they too can improve.

What good is these other privacy options when all your friend lists can still view your wall posts ? Facebook needs to secure up the content meaning all your posts, comments, etc.

Having only friends and friends of friends is not going to cut it.

Why not create a fan page for your business clients? You can keep this entirely separate from your personal profile but still get the benefits of being on Facebook. It would be fairly easy to keep the fan page business only. Good luck!
