The Declining Literacy Rate of the American Mall

Are bookstores going extinct? It sure seems so lately. I took Grandma to the mall the other day for a long overdue excursion. One of the items on my list was to buy a particular book. Sure I could have of ordered it online, but since I was going to the mall anyway, I figured that I would wait.

The first thing I did when we went in the mall was grabbed a directory, since it had been ages since we went to this particular mall. I looked over the directory several times, no bookstore.

Could it be that the bookstores now are standing on their own, with megastores, or are more people ordering online or a combination of the two?
