I’ve been doing these updates for folks on their WordPress blogs like a zombie and I see a feature or plugin that they discover or they have and I ask myself why not I?

I upgraded the core theme to the main site and Volia! I had instant custom menus, which I am now able to create the navigation I want, not the one that’s out of the box after install.

Sometimes the answer just lies in an upgrade.
