Whenever I meet someone new, this question almost always comes up?
Are you a Web Designer?
I answered that question on HOW (formerly the Creative Freelancers Conference Blog) Back in the day, the definition wasn’t as clear because if you were somewhat responsible for how something looked online, you were considered a web designer. So, I am going to explain it here.
A web designer designs the look and feel of the website. They rarely, if ever code the website (at least in my experience.) I’ve done a few wireframes, logos and banner or two, but I feel that does not deem me a “web designer”.
A web developer programs and codes the site to function as a website. Developers may also deal with the backend like databases, coding languages and uploading and launching the website.
