The recent ABC Ugly Betty episode last week showed the good, bad and the ugly of networking. Despite the usual M.O. , there were some instances where I recognized myself, not too long ago, trying to figure out the jungle that is Manhattan.
Like Betty, I was also born across the river. I quickly learned how to articulate my “social intro pitch” and truly make it my own.
On the other side, there is also the aspect of family.
I’m afraid of not being there when it counts. I’m experienced this already when I was out of town on a conference. I nearly had a scare a couple a years ago with Grandma and her landline.
Like Betty, I also have a family to lean on for support. My problem is that I don’t ask for help often enough.
